CfA: Postdoctoral Research Assistant for Project “Selling History: Tourist Guides, Bazaar Histories, and the Politics of the Past” in India (for up to 4 Months)

ICAS: MP would like to invite applications for one post of a postdoctoral research associate for its module History as a Political Category (TM1) for an initial period of 4 months, which may be extended to up to 12 months.

The broad task of the RA will be to assist the Principal Investigators of the project “Selling History: Tourist Guides, Bazaar Histories, and the Politics of the Past”. Her/his principal task will be to assist in the collection of travel guides, local histories, and chap books from different parts of India, as well as meet local tourist guides and local historians. The position requires considerable travelling for field work and hence adequate knowledge of Hindi and Bengali to complete the task, and some knowledge of local conditions is essential. Advanced skills in English are also required. The candidate will be encouraged to use material thus collected for writing articles but the principal task is research assistance in the bigger project. The post requires complete commitment and willingness to travel and work under pressure. She/he must be willing to start immediately.

The candidate must have completed a PhD in history with a very good degree and have some experience in collecting historical evidence from more than one region in India.
